49-year-old Koby Don Williams has been found guilty of one count of Attempted Online Enticement of a Minor following a jury verdict on May 14, 2024, a United States Attorney has announced.
Evidence showed that the former law enforcement officer replied to a Craigslist ad and engaged in explicit conversations with who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl over a period of three days.
During these conversations, Williams asked “Rebecca” how much she charged for sexual acts, discussed her age, and attempted to organize a meeting at a hotel for sex.
The Craigslist ad was actually part of an undercover law enforcement operation designed to identify individuals interested in meeting underage children for sex. When Williams arrived at the Quality Inn in Othello, Washington, under the impression he was meeting 13-year-old Rebecca, he was instead met and arrested by law enforcement.
A search of Williams’ vehicle uncovered two bottles of prescription medication with instructions to take before sexual activity, his Immigrations and Customs Enforcement badge, and $4,075 in cash.
This case was carried out as part of Project Safe Childhood, a campaign across America to combat the child exploitation epidemic. Project Safe Childhood was launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice. There has been a 40% rise in the number of cases and prosecutions since its implementation.
