Medical Horror: Urologist Gets Life for Sexually Abusing Patients, Including Children

After a two-week trial, a federal court found Paduch guilty on May 8 of six counts of inducing a person to travel to engage in unlawful sexual activity and five counts of inducing a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.
Paduch’s original indictment charged Paduch with sex crimes ranging from 2015 to 2019. As the case unfolded, the feds charged him in a superseding indictment of crimes going all the way back to 2007.
Enticed Multiple Victims to Travel to His Office
Paduch enticed and induced multiple victims to travel to his medical offices at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital in Manhattan, NYC, so he could sexually abuse them, according to court documents. He also made several victims travel to a second medical facility in New Jersey, where he also abused and assaulted them under the guise of providing medical care.
After switching to a different workplace, this time at Northwell Health in Long Island, NYC, he continued to sexually abuse patients by touching them in their genital area or directing them to do so while he watched, among other things. The court documents also state that he invited at least one person to his boat, where he gave the victim sedatives and sexually assaulted them.
Paduch prescribed drugs to other victims, according to the superseding indictment, including sedatives and psychotropics. The more dependent his patients became, the more they relied upon Paduch for refills, allowing him to continue to abuse them.
Paduch tried to convince patients that masturbating them was an appropriate medical treatment. He directed his victims to schedule follow-up visits.
During the trial, 11 victims testified about the sexual abuse, while another 12 provided impact statements on how the abuse affected their lives. Many of Dr. Paduch’s patients were under the age of 18 when the abuse occurred.
Former Employers
Paduch was employed by Weill Cornell Hospital in Manhattan until March 2020, according to NBC News. He worked at Northwell Health on Long Island from 2020 until his arrest in April 2023.
Shockingly, the timeframe during which he worked at both of these hospitals was after he had already been accused of inappropriate behavior and sexual remarks in five formal complaints by patients and employees. Those complaints were filed between 2006 and 2018.
Northwell Health, the hospital he worked for from 2020 to 2023, said in a statement, “Darius Paduch betrayed the sacred trust of a caregiver, caused profound harm to his patients, and lied to the Northwell Health community. Providing the best care to our patients comes first at Northwell, which is why we were appalled by the deeply disturbing revelations that came out during Dr. Paduch’s criminal trial.”
His other former employer, Weill Cornell in Manhattan, stated that the hospital has enhanced its policies “to minimize the risk of such abhorrent conduct occurring in the future.”
“We launched expanded chaperone policies and training in September 2023, which also included new requirements for clinical practices, such as prominent signage in exam rooms and additional documentation procedures,” the statement said.
