Arkansas State Representative Karilyn Brown (R), a principled leader advocating for informed consent in birth timing and natural processes to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in Arkansas.
When The Daily Muck shared our investigation into elective labor inductions—scheduled for hospital convenience rather than medical need—Brown responded directly and decisively, emphasizing a principled stance rooted in faith and respect for natural processes. “Personally, I think God and nature know when a baby is ready to be born,” she stated. “I would be opposed to inducing labor unless there were compelling reasons to do so.”
This faith-grounded view aligns with our findings: nearly 40% of U.S. inductions are elective, often without full risk disclosure, leading to disrupted fetal development, higher C-section rates, and added interventions.
Brown’s track record positions her to drive change. In 2021, she sponsored Quincy’s Law (HB1405), creating requirements for differential diagnoses in child maltreatment investigations to protect families from errors. In 2025, she co-sponsored HB1333 (now Act 627), mandating coverage for breastfeeding and lactation services. She also backed HB1004 to extend Medicaid postpartum coverage to one year and supported the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act (Act 124), a $45.3 million investment in prenatal care and doula support.
As the push grows for informed consent and hospital transparency, Brown’s engagement stands out. Her stance brings clear direction to a system too often driven by schedules over safety.
