Way Too Early Top Republican Candidates for the 2028 Presidential Election

All that’s left is the actual nomination process at the Republican National Convention, which will begin on July 15th.

The 2024 election will be a repeat of the 2020 election, with Donald Trump squaring off against the Democratic nominee, President Joe Biden.

Regardless of how this election turns out, we will have new candidates from both major parties for the next presidential election in 2028.

Here’s a list (way too early) of possible 2028 Republican candidates for President after the reign of Donald Trump has come to an end.

Ron DeSantis

Florida governor Ron DeSantis was considered at one point to be the favorite challenger to Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination. That didn’t work out for him, but you can bet that he will be a favorite to contend for the 2028 nomination.

DeSantis will celebrate his 50th birthday a month before the November 2028 election, so he will still be relatively young, in presidential terms. He has gained some valuable national recognition during the 2024 campaign which will help him outside of Florida in the years to come.

Kristi Noem

Kristi Noem first entered politics in 2010 when she was elected to the House of Representatives for her home state of North Dakota. She served there until 2019 when she successfully ran for Governor of the state.

Noem gained widespread attention during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic when she refused to institute a statewide mask mandate. During the 2024 Presidential campaign her name has repeatedly come up as a Vice-Presidential candidate to run alongside Donald Trump.

Vivek Ramaswamy

Relatively unknown before the 2024 election cycle, Vivek (like cake, he says) Ramaswamy is a tech and pharmaceutical entrepreneur who burst onto the national political scene in 2023. He gained a small but devoted following with Republicans for his fresh outlook and outgoing personality.

After he dropped out of the Presidential race, he was seen with Donald and Melania Trump at a Mar-a-Lago function, fueling VP speculation. He is another young Republican who will likely play a large role in Republican politics in the coming years.

Tim Scott

Tim Scott was born and raised in the Palmetto State, and was elected to the House of Representatives in 2011. Then in 2013 he was appointed to the U.S. Senate by then South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. The following year he won the seat outright in a special election.

Scott’s name has been discussed as a possible Trump running mate in both the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections. Regardless of where he ends up this go-round, he will be a likely candidate for president in 2028.

Nikki Haley

South Carolina is well represented in national conversations, with Nikki Haley joining Tim Scott in the national spotlight for the Republican party. She was a candidate for President in 2024 and will likely be a top candidate again in 2028.

Haley was born in South Carolina to Indian immigrant parents. She was a Representative of the state before being elected Governor in 2011. In 2017 Donald Trump appointed Haley as Ambassador to the United Nations, making her the first Indian-American cabinet official in US history.
